Dress Code Uniform Policy

Welcome Falcons to the new school year! We want to remind you that John Muir is still a Uniform School and this school year we will be returning to the expectation that all students be in uniform each day. That being said, please make sure to review our new uniform and dress code policy since there have been some big changes. You can use the links below to access and print out our new policy or scroll down the page to quickly access the same information.

The colors Red and Blue are prohibited. All variations (including, but not limited to, baby blue, maroon, and teal) are also prohibited.

Students attending field trips or school sponsored off campus activities shall wear school uniforms, unless otherwise advised.

Tops (may be worn alone)

  • Tops must be short-sleeved or long-sleeved and appropriate length
  • Tops must be a solid color: white, black, grey, purple, yellow, or green only
  • Any logos on tops must be small and appropriate such as a shirt label or designer
  • Students can wear any John Muir School T-shirt (given by school, purchased at school, or through PTSA)

Undershirts (can be worn under top)

  • Undershirts can be long-sleeved, short-sleeved, or sleeve-less
  • Undershirts must be a solid color: white, black, grey, purple, yellow, or green only
  • Must stay under uniform top at all times on campus

Sweatshirts, Jackets, Fleece, & Sweaters (uniform top must be worn underneath)

  • Must be a solid color: white, black, grey, purple, yellow, or green only
  • Any John Muir School sweatshirt is allowed
  • Appropriate small logos only - designers, labels
  • No logos or designs for outside organizations or professional team names
  • Hoods may not be worn on campus at anytime

Pants

  • Any solid black- or khaki-colored pants- no designs, stripes, holes, or see-through materials
  • Must be worn at the waist or above the hips
  • No sweatpants

Shorts and Skirts

  • Any solid black- or khaki-colored shorts or skirts- no designs, stripes, holes, or see-through materials
  • Must be worn at the waist or above the hips
  • Appropriate in length
  • Tights and leggings (solid black only) may be worn under skirts

Backpacks

  • No inappropriate writing, tagging, sharpies, etc., including but not limited to characters, cartoons, and logos

Shoes, Shoelaces, and Socks

  • Shoes must not be a dominant shade or variation of red or blue, this includes the sole and laces of the shoe
  • Closed-toe shoes only. No steel toe, flip flops, slippers, or heels
  • Socks cannot be any shade of solid red or blue

Hats, Hoods, and Beanies

  • No hats or hoods on campus

Belts

  • Belts must have plain buckles and be solid color: white, black, brown, tan, gray, purple, green, or yellow only
  • Belts must be worn through belt loops and connected to pants at all times on campus

Accessories

  • Hair accessories, lanyards, stickers on water bottles must all be school appropriate.

Masks

  • Masks need to cover the student’s nose and mouth, fit snuggly on their face on each side, and rest on the bridge of their nose to under their chin
  • Site admin reserve the right to require students to wear a mask whenever necessary and/or advised by school district policy and/or county, state, or national guidelines

Free Dress / Dance Dress

  • No dominant red or blue clothing, shoes, or accessories (including no variations of these colors)
  • Pants with holes may be worn with solid black tights or leggings underneath
  • No midriff showing
  • No strapless tops
  • No professional team logos unless designated by staff
  • Skirts must be appropriate length
  • No hats or hoods on
  • No steel toe, flip flops, or slippers
  • No backpacks at dances

P.E. Uniform must be worn only during P.E.
The Office has gently used clothes that fit the uniform policy.
